The event marks the beginning of a cooperation model between technology and insurance, together aiming to develop green, safe, sustainable, and modern transportation in Vietnam.
From fear of fire and explosion to the answer of safe charging infrastructure
In the memorandum, the two sides agreed to deploy specialized insurance solutions for EVsafe equipment. Specifically, OPES will provide the EVshield insurance package, a voluntary fire-and-explosion risk insurance that protects charging-post assets against risks of fire, electrical short circuits, and natural disasters.
At the same time, users charging their EVs at EVsafe posts are also protected by a physical-damage insurance package for each charging session, compensating for physical damage in the event of an incident during charging.
The combination of smart technology solutions and a digital insurance model opens up a new direction in developing EV infrastructure, bringing Vietnam closer to its goal of greening urban transportation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Thời – CEO of CHTLab – emphasized that what worries people most today is not only the installation cost, but the fear of fire and explosion, especially at apartment complexes and public charging points. EVsafe is designed to address exactly that concern. "Partnering with OPES helps us complete the ecosystem, delivering dual protection, from technology to insurance," Mr. Thời said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Tự Trí, Standing Deputy General Director of OPES, shared: "We see this as an opportunity for the insurance industry to accompany the green development trend. OPES is committed to delivering a fast, convenient, and transparent claims process, giving EVsafe charging-post users complete peace of mind."
The event not only marks a milestone of cooperation between the two enterprises but also affirms the role of insurance as a component of clean energy infrastructure. When technology and insurance join hands, people not only experience modern convenience but are also assured of safety in every step of use.
The EV market is growing hot, while infrastructure remains "cold"
As transportation enters the era of electrification, battery-powered vehicles are no longer an unfamiliar sight on Vietnam's streets. This transformation opens up hope for a green future, but it also poses an urgent requirement: a safe and synchronized charging station infrastructure must be built.
According to data from Motorcycles Data, in just the first half of 2025 Vietnam consumed about 209,000 electric motorbikes, up 99.2% over the same period last year — a figure showing the market's astonishing momentum. On the global map, China remains the "giant" with more than 3.2 million units sold, followed by India with over 657,000 units. Vietnam has now risen to third place, surpassing Turkey and Indonesia to become one of the most vibrant electric motorbike markets in the world.
However, alongside the wave of growth is a large gap in charging infrastructure. Nationwide there are currently just over 3,000 public charging stations, mostly invested in by VinFast and mainly compatible with same-brand vehicles. This number is still far too small compared to the 17,000 petrol stations operating nationwide, clearly demonstrating the shortage of public EV charging infrastructure.
Experts warn that when the charging station system is not developed in time, users are forced to charge their vehicles at home, even in apartment corridors or basements — locations with a high latent risk of fire and explosion. If a safe, synchronized charging station network that is open to many vehicle brands is not established soon, then no matter how vibrant the market becomes, consumers' apprehension will remain a major barrier on the road to popularizing EVs.
Recognizing that gap, CHTLab researched and developed EVsafe, a smart EV charging post system integrated with remote management software that allows monitoring of equipment status, automatic power cut-off in case of overload, and early warning of incident risks. Technically, EVsafe complies with national fire-prevention standards and the technical standards for charging stations, which are being updated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Construction. This is also a direction aligned with the roadmap set out by the Government – encouraging the socialization of charging infrastructure and forming a shared charging network for many types of vehicles.
